Brigadier General (Ret)
Phil Coker

Brigadier General (Ret) Phil Coker served with the US Army in the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East as a Cavalry Officer and Analyst for 32 years.

After retirement, he joined the defense industry as a Director, ultimately managing four production facilities in the US and UK, building robots and command and control systems for the Department of Defense and Law Enforcement customers.   He was one of the founding members of the Heartspur Group, and served as the VP of Operations. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, holds a Master’s Degree in Systems Management from USC and received a Certificate in Executive Coaching from the University of Texas in Dallas.

He has extensive experience in government pursuits, new product development, leadership training, holds a certificate in executive and leadership coaching, and has been giving keynote addresses for over 20 years.

Colonel (Ret)
Jim Heverin
Vice President Programs

Colonel (Ret) Jim Heverin served with the US Army as an Artillery Officer and product developer for almost 30 years, including service in the US and Europe as well as the Middle East.  He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and holds a Master of Science from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

Upon retirement from the Army he was hired to manage and lead hardware production programs for a major defense contractor; culminating in his assignment as CEO of a robotics company.

He has extensive experience leading organizations and turning around failing operations as well as a complete understanding of the DoD acquisition system.  He also brings a strong background in production operations as well as full insight into complex systems integration.

Steve Below
Vice President Operations

Steve Below has over twenty-five years of business development experience.  He is a graduate of Clemson University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and holds Master of Science degrees in Electromagnetic Theory and Information Management.

His broad-based strategic planning career has given him hands-on knowledge of conducting client needs assessments, creating a shared sales vision and building strategic alliances. Perhaps more important is his ability to evaluate company/client needs, and then develop a solution that meets those needs.

In addition, he holds Quality Management System certifications in CMMI and ISO.

He is the current President of AUSA Redstone-Huntsville.

Meryl Kovac
Director of Contracts

Meryl Kovac has over 35 year’s experience in all aspects of government contracts management.  She is a graduate of the University of Redlands and during her career with various defense industry companies has held positions of great responsibility including Senior Contracts Manager, Division Contracts Operations Manager and Deputy Program Manager.

She has extensive experience with FAR and DFAR requirements, risk management, performance compliance, managing multiple contract types, government negotiation and has routinely directed contracting for individual programs worth more than $700M.  In one two-year period she personally negotiated contracts worth more than $1B.

She has led and developed Contracts personnel throughout her career and is a master in managing difficult customer relationships

Elizabeth Ewald
Marketing Manager

Elizabeth Ewald is an enthusiastic professional known for her unwavering work ethic, dedication, and commitment to customer satisfaction. Throughout her multifaceted career she has gained extensive hands-on expertise in contracts while a procurement contractor for NASA-Marshall Space Flight Center, accounting at a Giles & Kendall Cedar Mill/Manufacturing Plant, Huntsville Coca-Cola Production Plant and ITC DeltaCom, and data management and operational support in commercial, defense and community service organizations.

No matter what venture she takes on, Elizabeth strives to be a trusted asset who consistently produces top-quality work that helps advance her company and cater to the needs of her customers.

Dan Pline
Facilities Manager

Dan Pline brings 30 years of maintenance and production facilities management to the EOS team.

He has served in the U.S. Air Force as a Material Facilities Specialist. Along with 12 years in the electric motor and control repair industry, an associate's degree in electronic technology. Dan has the experience to bring efficient and effective production techniques to the EOS group.

Having lived in the Huntsville area for the most of his life, his contacts in the management of facilities are time tested and broad reaching.

Dan has a blended family of six children, four grandchildren, plays the banjo, and combined with his volunteer work at Huntsville Botanical Garden, where his wife Soozi works, he enjoys a full life!

John Limperis
Director of Business Development, Space

John Limperis brings over 30 years of team development, product and program management skills in civil and commercial space and Department of Defense to EOS. Beginning his career at Rockwell Space Systems he was heavily involved with Space Shuttle operations and rocket propulsion testing and development. As a program manager John worked with multiple agencies, commands and U.S. universities to develop space hardware and technologies.

His roles in business development include building successful teams, directing business development, customer relations, governmental affairs and planning and executing public relations and outreach activities to increase awareness and marketability for technology programs and products developed for the space and defense environment.

Chad Lemond
Director of Business Development, Defense

Chad Lemond has been operating in the global defense business development sphere, both in and out of uniform, for the past sixteen years.

He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, the Naval Postgraduate School and the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS) "Guido Carli" where he achieved a MS in International Relations.

As a speaker of both French and Italian, Chad has both broad domestic and international contacts as well as extensive knowledge of the U.S. and European defense industries. He is also currently serving on the Huntsville Association of Small Businesses in Advanced Technology (HASBAT) board of directors.

Ben Greene
Executive Director

Dr Ben Greene established the original laser space tracking capabilities and infrastructure across Australia.  He was also the principle designer of the initial remote weapon stations programs for the US Army.

Ben is the CEO of EOS, holding the position from the company’s founding in 1983. He is widely published in science and technology, has authored numerous patents, and his work has been recognized by NASA and USAF awards.

Ben is a past member of Australia’s Prime Ministers Science, Engineering and Innovation Council (PMSEIC), Director of the CRC for Space Environment Management and Deputy Chair of the Western Pacific Laser Tracking Network (WPLTN).

Pete Short
Pete Short
Executive Director

Pete Short joined EOS in January 2016 as VP, for Strategy and Business Development. He is currently the Corporate Chief Operations Officer. Pete served in the Australian Army from 1984 to 2015 as an Infantry Officer, achieving the rank of Brigadier. He served in Somalia, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan (twice) and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for action in Iraq.

His last appointments in the Army were as Director General, Land Development and Director General, Base & Customer Support Services. He has a Master of Arts (Strategic Studies), Bachelor of Social Sciences (Human Resources Management) and is a Thai linguist.

After retirement, he joined Northrop Grumman as a Director, ultimately managing four production facilities in the US and UK, building robots and command and control systems for the Department of Defense and Law Enforcement customers.

Upon retirement in 2016 he formed a consulting company, and was then appointed as the President, EOS Defense Systems USA in February 2018.  He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, holds a master’s degree in Systems Management from USC and a graduate certificate in leadership coaching from the University of Texas in Dallas.

Morrell John Berry
Non-Executive Director

Morrell John Berry is a former US government official who was named President of the American Australian Association in 2016.  He completed degrees at the University of Maryland, College Park and Syracuse University and worked in local government and as a legislative aide in state government from 1982 to 1985.

From 1985 to 1994, Mr Berry worked as legislative director for U.S. Representative Steny Hoyer. He then held posts in the U.S. Treasury Department, the Smithsonian Institution, and the U.S. Department of the Interior until 2000, and worked as director of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the National Zoological Park until 2009, when he was nominated to be the director of the United States Office of Personnel Management.

Mr Berry took office after being confirmed by the United States Senate in April 2009. In June 2013, President Obama nominated Berry to be the U.S. Ambassador to Australia. He was confirmed by unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate in August 2013.

James R Myles
Non-Executive Director

Major General (Ret) James R Myles served more than 36 years in the U.S. Army retiring at the rank of Major General. His final assignment was the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command and Redstone Arsenal, AL.

In his career Myles served in key command and staff positions throughout the Army, to include Commanding General, U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command, Assistant Division Commander (Maneuver), 1st Cavalry Division, Commander, 17th Aviation Brigade, service on the Joint Staff, and key leadership positions in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.

From 2011-2015 Myles held senior leadership positions at DynCorp International culminating as Senior Vice President with P&L responsibility for its annual $1.2B aviation portfolio. He is currently the President and Founder of Myles Associates.

Dr. Joe Fitzgerald is the owner, Decision Sciences, a consulting firm founded in 1997providing support for market development, strategic planning, and formulation of technical and business solutions for the Federal Government. The company’s primary focus is on support to the aerospace and defense community.

Previously, Dr Fitzgerald was Vice President for Missile Systems Technology and for BDM International where he was responsible for BDM Federal activities in the Huntsville, Redstone, and the North Florida (Eglin AFB) areas.

Since 2013 he has also served as the Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for North Alabama, providing individual advice to the Secretary of the Army, the Chief of Staff of the Army and Commanders at all levels.
